The Cesky Terrier Club
Championship Show 16th July 2023
A thoroughly enjoyable time was spent officiating at The Cesky Terrier Club Championship Show and I was most gratified with the entry of 40 dogs with just 7 absentees on the day. I was truly humbled that the officers and committee considered myself worthy of judging their Championship Show which was my first CC appointment for the breed.
Some classes were rather varied and gave me much to think about and one or two dogs were not showing themselves to their best advantage, however I thought quality across the entry was high and there were several really top drawer Ceskies strutting their stuff on the day.
PD (2,0)
1. Samson’s Silak Little Monster. The day got underway with two very different puppies and my winner was this 6 mth old. Very much a baby but he was good to go over and presented a well balanced outline with slightly arched neck of correct length, characteristic topline, pleasing rib for age, loin of good length and tail correct for both set and carriage. Pleasing head and expression with excellent eye, slight stop and scissor bite. Good angles front and rear and particularly impressed on the go around.
2. Halling & Atter’s Ridley Atticus. 10 mth old who is out of a larger mould but another with lots to like. Nicely balanced with good length of neck, topline rising slightly to a well-arched loin, pleasing rib and loin and tail good for both set and carriage. Quality head with slight arch to skull, dark expressive eyes, ears of correct size and set and good dentition. He stands nice and straight in front and moved true both fore and aft but not quite profile action of winner.
JD (4,1)
1. Tobijanski’s Ch Janski O’Rolox. 17 mth old who ticked all the boxes for me. Scoring for both type and soundness and a delight to go over. He presented a lovely outline with slightly arched neck of good length which flows into well laid shoulders, correct topline which characteristically rises to a well-arched loin, first class ribbing, muscular loin, correct croup and tail just right for set and carriage. Quality headpiece with masculine expression; dark eyes, ears just right for size and set and scissor bite. Faultless construction; standing straight in front and firm, muscular hindquarters. Moving freely on the down and back and using himself to maximum effect. Quality coat and presentation and so very well handled. CC and Best in Show.
2. Halling’s Ridley Ambrose. 10 mth old who appealed for type and I thought most promising. Excellent length of neck with slight arch, correct topline of the breed, rib developing well for age, good length to loin and tail correct for both set and carriage. Attractive head with good length, slight arch to skull, the best of eyes, ears good for size and set and correct dentition. Pleasing angles front and rear and stands nice and straight. Moves out so well on the go around with desired ’€propulsive’ action and dead on when coming towards. Best Puppy Dog and Reserve Best Puppy in Show.
3. Ellison’s Placido Proper Player. 15 mth old who didn’t quite present the outline I was looking for and I felt he could have used a tad more length to balance. Having said that he has a good length of neck, pleasing topline and ribbing, muscular loin and tail of correct carriage. Balanced headpiece with correct skull, slight stop, nice eye and ear and scissor bite. Moving well on the go around and ok on the down and back. Presented in good condition and very well handled.

1. Samson’s Talyot Odin Silak. 15 mth old standing alone here but I thought him a most promising youngster. He presented a lovely outline with slightly arched neck of good length to balance, moderate length of body with topline rising slightly to well-arched loin, correct croup and tail good for both set and carriage. Pleasing headpiece with masculine expression; slight arch to skull, correct stop, lovely dark eyes, medium-sized ears set on high and good dentition. Good angles front and rear and moves well all through with plenty of drive. Well presented. Just needs a bit more time.

1. Samson’s Talyot Magnus to Silak. For me this 2 yr old was a comfortable winner in this class. Scoring for type, size and balance and good to go over given his correct construction and excellent muscle-tone. Medium long neck with slight arch, correct topline, super ribbing, muscular loin and tail just right for set and carriage. Masculine head with super expressive eyes, correct skull which is not too wide between his well set ears, slight stop and good dentition. Well laid shoulders, straight forelegs and strong, well angulated rear. Moving well all through.
2. Pearson’s Placido Musical Mission at Winoski. 4 yr old who was also pleasing to go over but doesn’t quite have the furnishings of winner. He presented a good outline with elegant neck of correct length to balance, characteristic topline of the breed, cylindrical ribbing, muscular loin and tail set and carried correctly. Balanced headpiece with medium-sized ears of correct set and good eyes but overall expression could not compete with that of winner. Pleasing angulation front and rear and moving pretty well all through but again winner had the edge in this department.
3. Goundry’s Komidion Rimsky Korsakov at Saraminija. This 3 yr old is a heavier lad all through and also has a touch more length and therefore lost out on outline to the two standing in front of him. I did like his length of neck which has the desired slight arch, his topline rises slightly to a well-arched loin and tail is set and carried correctly. Masculine headpiece with good eye and ear and correct dentition. Front could be straight and this reflected when gaiting but he moves out well when viewed in profile.
OD (5,0)
1. England & Burrage’s Ch Ashleyheath’s Black Thunder ShCM ShCEx VW. A close fought battle in this class between the first two. My winner was this 10 yr old who certainly defies his years. Excelling for type and outline and carrying lovely bone, he was so good to go over and I was particularly impressed with his condition and muscling. So very well balanced with slightly arched neck, first class topline which rises slightly to a well-arched muscular loin, correct croup and tail good for both set and carriage. Quality head with masculine expression; slight arch to skull, ears correct for size and set, dark medium-sized eyes and scissor bite. Faultless construction both front and rear, gaiting parallel on the down and back and moves out with vigour and purpose. RCC, Reserve Best in Show and Best Veteran in Show.
2. Tobijansk’s Ch Janski Bugurovski. This 5 yr old is another top quality Cesky, fully mature and presented in excellent coat and condition. He too presented the outline I was looking for with slightly arched neck of good length to balance, body of moderate length with topline rising as desired, super ribbing, broad muscular loin, correct croup and tail just right for set and carriage. Best of heads; fairly long with slight arch to skull, ears correct for both size and set, dark expressive eyes and scissor bite. Shoulders well laid, stands straight in front and firm, well-muscled hindquarters with good turn of stifle. Certainly didn’t disappoint on the move; true on the down and back and although moving out well just felt winner had the edge on the go around.
3. Taylo’s Oural Du Champ D’Eole (Imp Fra). 4 yr old who could have made a little more of himself. Soundly constructed and therefore pleasing to go over but he didn’t quite have the outline of those placed above him. Neck of good length, pretty good topline, correct ribbing, muscular loin and tail set and carried just right. Masculine headpiece which is relatively long, slight stop, ears of correct set but a tad larger, dark expressive eyes and good dentition. Nice layback of shoulder, straight well-boned forelegs, lovely forechest and muscular hindquarters with good bend of stifle. Parallel action on the down and back but could have moved out with a tad more verve.
PB (2,0)
1. Tobijanski’s Janski Yamizzabl Witch. Once again a class where two very different exhibits competed. My winner was this 9 mth old who I thought quite outstanding. Excelling for type and feminine throughout she presented a beautifully balanced outline with elegant neck of correct length, the best of toplines, super ribbing for age, muscular loin, correct croup and tail good for set and carriage. Quality headpiece with delightful expression; excellent eye and ear, slight but distinct stop and scissor bite. As sound as they come and standing well naturally; moving freely on the down and back and with the desired propulsive action of the breed. RCC and Best Puppy in Show.
2. Samson’s Silak Never Miss A Beat. At just 6 mths this pup certainly was up against it in this class but she is most promising and I’m sure she will have many good days to come. Pleasing for type and nicely balanced with slightly arched neck of good length, correct topline which rises slightly to a well-arched loin, cylindrical ribcage, good length to loin and tail of correct set and carriage. Feminine headpiece; relatively long, ears correct for size and set, lovely dark expressive eyes and good dentition. Moving so well on the go around and true when going away. Just not quite front action of winner.
JB (1,0)
1. Tobijanski’s Janski Storm Padfoot. Standing alone here, this 17 mth old is a cracking youngster and I see she is a litter mate to my BIS winner here today. Another who scored for type and presented a super outline with strong neck of correct length to balance, characteristic topline, first class ribbing, broad muscular loin and tail just right for both set and carriage. Her head is relatively long and I just loved her expression; slight arch to skull with correct breadth between her medium-sized ears and eyes good for colour and size. Soundly built and shown with such good muscle-tone; parallel on the down and back and moving out with purpose on the go around.
GB (2,0)
1. Halling’s Wherrypoint Gloria. Coming up to 2 yrs, this girl took a little while to settle but she impressed when going over and has lots to like. Feminine all through and presenting a nicely balanced outline with moderately long neck, correct topline, cylindrical ribbing, muscular loin and tail of correct set and carriage. Attractive head and dark expressive eyes, ears of correct set, slight stop, straight muzzle and good dentition. Nice layback of shoulder, standing straight in front and muscular hindquarters with pleasing turn of stifle. Moving freely with good carriage when settled.
2. Ellison’s Placido Oriana. 2 yr old who in contrast to the winner, made the most of herself at all times and was thoroughly enjoying her time in the ring. Elegant neck of good length to balance, correct topline which rises to a slight arch over the loin, pleasing rib and muscular loin but her tail is a little higher set than preferred. Pleasing head with feminine expression; correct skull, slight stop and dark expressive eyes. Not quite front assembly of winner but she moved out with purpose on the go around and also went well when going away.
PGB (3,0)
1. England & Burrage’s Ashletova Gone With The Wind. 2 yr old who needs a tad more confidence but I thought her so good for type and outline and she also pleased upon closer inspection. Excellent neck, correct length to height ratio to balance, first class ribbing, broad muscular loin, correct croup and tail good for both set and carriage. Attractive head and expression with good skull, lovely dark eyes, medium-sized ears, straight muzzle and scissor bite. Carrying good bone, she has good angles front and rear and moved parallel on the down and back.
2. Burrage’s Komidion Sonata for Sametova JW. 19 mth old who was close on the heels of the winner but just felt 1 had in the edge in outline. Slightly arched neck of good length to balance, desired rise to a well-arched loin, muscular loin of good breadth and tail correct for set and carriage. Relatively long head with slight arch to skull, good eye and ear and scissor bite. Shoulders well laid back, straight forelegs and well-muscled hindquarters with hocks well let down. Confident show girl with free, purposeful action.
3. Goundry’s Komidion Symphoniques at Saraminija. From the catalogue I see that this girl is litter sister to the second in this class and they really are like chalk and cheese. For me this bitch doesn’t quite have the balance of her sister, being a little longer and also with a somewhat different topline, with the rise being more than the ’slight’ that the standard calls for. Neck of good length, correct croup and pleasing tail set and carriage. She has a feminine headpiece with correct skull, dark expressive eyes, ears of correct set and good dentition. Moving true when viewed from behind and goes pretty well on the go around.
LB (6,2)
1. Dukes’ Runiks Akreepa of Dragons. A rather varied class with some quite different bitches present. My eventual winner was this 2 yr old and she was another who could make more of herself in the ring. She pleased for overall type and was presented with such good muscle-tone. Neck of good length to balance, pretty good topline, correct rib and broad muscular loin. Nicely proportioned head with dark expressive eyes, ears correct for size and set, slight but distinct stop and scissor bite. Carrying good bone, she is soundly made all through, stands straight in front and moved parallel when coming and going.
2. Pearson’s Zvonenka Hamentashen at Winoski (Imp Cze). 4 yr old who is feminine all through and presented a pleasing outline with elegant neck of good length, moderately long body with topline rising slightly to a well-arched loin, cylindrical ribbing, good length to loin, correct croup and tail good for both set and carriage. Attractive head which is relatively long, correct skull, medium-sized ears, nice dark eye and good dentition. She stands somewhat wider in front but this doesn’t particularly reflect when gaiting. Impressed on the go around with plenty of drive.
3. England’s Komidion Queen’s Rhapsody by Ashleyheath. 3 yr old who I thought would be my winner here when she first entered the ring, however she was not at all happy and therefore had to be placed down the line. Feminine throughout, she scored for type and presented a lovely balanced outline with super neck, correct topline for the breed, excellent ribbing, broad muscular loin and tail good for both set and carriage. Pleasing head and expression with slight arch to the skull, ears of correct set but a fraction larger, lovely dark eyes, good stop and scissor bite. She stands nice and straight in front and moved parallel on the down and back.

1. Dukes’ Placido Musical Miracle at Runiks. This was a really nice class with some lovely bitches present. My winner was this 4 yr old who I thought an excellent type and so very correct. She presented such a lovely outline and with hands on each part flowed smoothly into the next; elegant neck of correct length to balance, moderately long body with topline rising slightly to a well-arched loin, correct croup and tail dead on for set and carriage. She has the best of heads with a super expression; relatively long with slight arch to skull, perfect ears for size and set, lovely dark eyes and scissor bite. Well laid shoulders, straight well-boned forelegs and firm, muscular hindquarters with good turn of stifle. Even though there were some lovely bitches in the class, this girl out-moved them all particularly on the go around and she made the most of herself as she went. Handled to advantage and delighted to award her the CC today.
2. Tobijanski’s Little Witch. This 3 yr old is another quality Cesky and she presented such a lovely balanced outline. Moderately long neck with desired slight arch, characteristic topline of the breed, super ribbing, broad muscular loin, correct croup and tail just right for set and carriage. Relatively long head with feminine expression; correct stop, lovely dark eyes, good ears but not quite those of winner, straight muzzle and good dentition. Carrying good bone she stands nice and straight in front with excellent forechest and is well-muscled throughout. Moving well all through and well deserved her placement in this lovely class.
3. Fewings’ Ch Komidion Passionato. Just a few days short of 7 yrs, this girl pleased for overall type and was good to go over given her sound construction. Elegant neck of good length, topline rising slightly to well-arched loin and then flowing down to correct set on of tail. Quality headpiece with feminine expression; slight arch to skull, ears of medium size, excellent eyes and scissor bite. Nice layback of shoulder, stands straight in front and shown with excellent muscle-tone. Parallel on the down and back and moving well on the go around but would just have liked to see her gaited with a tad more pace.
VB (2,1)
1. Burrage’s Ch Komidion Night Music at Sametova ShCM ShCEx VW. 13 yr old who was shown here in amazing condition and muscle-tone for her age. Feminine all through and presented the characteristic outline of the breed with slightly arched neck of good length to balance, topline rising slightly, correct croup and tail good for set and carriage. Head of good length with ears set on just right, dark expressive eyes and scissor bite with amazing dentition! Her angles pleased both front and rear and she moved true when coming and going and opened up nicely on the go around. Reserve Best Veteran in Show.
